In Pokemon Yellow, you can only start out with Pikachu. Your Pikachu will follow you everywhere and if you look at it, it will show you how it feels about having you as a trainer. Pokemon Yellow is the same Pokemon World as Red and Blue, except that on Route 19 there is a new house that doesn't exist in the Red and Blue Versions.
Pallet Town
Go to the PC in the room you start out in and withdraw the potion.
Go down the stairs and out of the house. Go to your right, up
and into the patch of grass. Professor Oak will come to stop you.
Then you will both be attacked by a wild Pikachu. Professor Oak
captures the Pikachu and then brings you back to his lab. Professor
Oak will tell you to choose a Pokemon. When you go to take the
Poke Ball off the table, your rival pushes you out of the way
and takes it. Professor Oak then gives you the Pikachu he just
caught. When you try to leave the building, your rival will challenge
you. Use a combination of growl and thundershock to beat his Eevee.
Use the potion if you need it. Then leave the building and go
up Route 1.
Route 1
Go up Route 1 to Viridian City. Train your Pokemon against wild
Pokemon on your way there.
Viridian City
When you are at Viridian City, go to the Poke Center and then
go to the Poke Mart. The person in the Poke Mart will give you
Oak's Parcel and you have to bring it to him. Go back down Route
1 to Pallet Town.
Pallet Town
Go to Professor Oak's Lab and go talk to him at the back of the
room. He will give you your Poke Dex. Then go to your rival's
house and talk to your rival's sister who is sitting at the table.
She will give you a town map. Then go back up Route 1 to Viridian
City.
Viridian City
Go to the Poke Mart in Viridian and buy Poke Balls and anything
else you might need.
Route 1 - Optional
Go down to Route 1 and catch Rattata and Pidgey.
Viridian Forest - Optional
Go up to Viridian Forest above Viridian City to catch Caterpie,
Metapod, Pidgey and Pidgeotto.
Route 22 - Optional
Go left to Route 22 to catch Rattata, Nidoran M, Nidoran F, Mankey
and Spearow on Route 22 to the left of Viridian City. When you
have caught and trained enough of your Pokemon, go battle your
rival who is waiting for you on Route 22. I would train the Pokemon
used in battle to level 10 before going to your rival. Train them
in Viridian Forest against Metapod. Good Pokemon to train are
Caterpie, maybe a Nidoran, and of course your Pikachu. Your rival
will have a L9 Pidgey and then a L8 Eevee. If you beat him here
and beat him at Professor Oak's lab, his Eevee will evolve into
Jolteon. If you loose here and lost at Professor Oak's lab, it
will evolve into Vaporeon. If you loose here but won at Professor
Oak's lab, it will evolve into Flareon.
Viridian Forest
Go all the way through Viridian Forest and make sure you have
either a L10 Butterfree that knows confusion or a high level Pidgey/Pidgeotto
that knows sand-attack. Then go up to Pewter City.
Pewter City
Go to Brock's gym in Pewter City. The trainer before Brock has
a L9 Diglett and a L9 Sandshrew. Brock has a L10 Geodude and a
L12 Onix. Brock will give you your Boulderbadge and TM34 (Bide)
when you beat him. Buy anything you need at the Poke Mart, like
more Poke Balls, awakening, and potions.
Route 3
Go through Route 3 to the right of Pewter City and head for Mount
Moon. On Route 3, you can catch Rattata, Spearow, Sandshrew and
Mankey. Route 3 is a good place to train Pikachu.
Mount Moon
Go in Mount Moon. Catch Zubat, Sandshrew, Paras, Clefairy, and
Geodude. When you get near the end of Mount Moon, there will be
a Team Rocket member guarding two fossils. When you beat him you
can either have the Dome Fossil (Kabuto) or the Helix Fossil (Omanyte).
There is a hidden Moon Stone right before the Team Rocket member.
When you get near the exit, Jessie and James will challenge you.
They have a L14 Ekans, a L14 Meowth, and a L14 Koffing. Exit Mount
Moon after you have caught all the Pokemon there and have beaten
Jessie and James.
Route 4
Go onto Route 4. Here you can catch Rattata, Spearow, Sandshrew,
and Mankey. Go to your right to Cerulean City.
Cerulean City
When you are in Cerulean City, go up and cross Nugget Bridge.
Your rival will challenge you when you get there. He has a L18
Spearow, a L15 Sandshrew, a L15 Rattata, and a L17 Eevee. After
you beat the five trainers on Nugget Bridge, you will get a Nugget
which you sell to get a lot of money. Go to the left of Nugget
Bridge on Route 24. You can catch Caterpie, Metapod, Pidgey, Pidgeotto,
Venonat, Oddish, and Bellsprout. Then go up and talk to the person
in the upper left. He will give you a Charmander. After you have
done this, go to your right across Route 25 to get to Bill's House.
Talk to Bill and he will go into the teleporter. While he is in
the teleporter, go to his computer and activate the teleporter.
When Bill comes out of the teleporter, talk to him and he will
give you the SS Ticket. If you exit Bill's house and then go back
in, you can look at Eevee, Jolteon, Flareon, and Vaporeon on his
computer.
Go back to Cerulean City and go into the gym. The first trainer there has a L16 Horsea and a L16 Shellder. The second trainer has a L19 Goldeen. Misty has a L18 Staryu and a L21 Starmie. Misty will give you your Cascade Badge and TM11 (Bubblebeam) when you beat her. If you go into the house next to the Poke Center, the girl there will give you a Bulbasaur but only if Pikachu really likes you. Go to the house the police officer is standing next to. Go out the back door and you will find a Team Rocket member. When you beat him, you will get TM28 (Dig). Go down onto Route 5. You can catch Pidgey, Pidgeotto, Rattata, Jigglypuff, and Abra here. As soon as you get cut, leave the ship and go to the right of the ship's dock and go up to Diglett's Cave. You can catch Diglett and Dugtrio here. When you get to the other end of Diglett's cave, go down to the first house you get to. A person in the house will trade you his Mr. Mime for a Clefairy. In the house that is farther down, you will get HM05 (Flash) if you have caught 10 different Pokemon. Go back up and you can use cut to get to Pewter City. now that you have cut, you can go into the side entrance of the museum where scientist will give you the Old Amber. Then go to Cerulean City where you can exchange your bike voucher for a bike.
Go back to Vermilion City. You should now be able to get Squirtle from the person walking around the city. Go to the gym. The trainers have Magnemites and Voltorbs from L20-L24. Lt. Surge has a L28 Raichu. When you beat Lt. Surge, he will give you your Thunder Badge and TM24 (Thunderbolt). Go to the right of Vermilion City to Route 11. There will be a maze you have to go through. Go up the staircase at the exit and find the person standing behind two tables. After you battle him, talk to him and he will drop the lift key.
